Collaborations
In collaboration with Lacy Mitcham Veteto for "All Things Are Collaboration," at Rowdy Department in Memphis, TN.
"All Things Are Collaboration: An Anti-Solo Show was born out of the idea that no art is made in a vacuum, thus no artist works entirely alone. One artist, Lacy Mitcham Veteto, got the chance to do ten individual collaborations with artists she feels close to and admires. Physical form is given to this important part of the art making process that usually remains behind the scenes and in the subconscious."
-Lacy Mitcham Veteto
In these works, Kelly Cook took cutout petal pieces made by Lacy Mitcham Veteto and incorporated figures in gouache. The figures were observed in urban environments, either in waiting or in rest. The combination of botanical and figurative elements serve as reminder how how humans are still connected to natural life, even though we try to remove ourselves from it.
